Release Notes v2.1.1

Aimably Insight: Now With Region & Child Account Drill Down

As we end the year of 2020, Aimably has updated to its latest version based on customer feedback. Please read the details below to learn more about the enhancements and how they may benefit your company.

Comprehensive AWS Child Accounts Support

Use Aimably Insight to review your AWS cost profile in individual child accounts or your entire organizational structure.

In the latter half of this year we developed support for nested child accounts, pulling all data from master and child accounts into our signature dashboard in Aimably Insight. In this release we’ve added:

  • Individual totals for each child account on monthly emails
  • Custom child account information on daily emails
  • Support for storage graph details broken out by master and child accounts

Pinpoint Inventory Report

Use Aimably Insight to review full inventory data by AWS Region.

With Aimably Insight’s Summary Inventory Report, you can easily view total inventory used in your AWS environment. Now, with the Pinpoint Inventory Report, you can zero in on exact regions or child accounts of usage. Using our new suite of pinpointing tools, find previously unseen inventory and analyze it for effective usage:

  • Inventory summary displayed on region hover in the dashboard World Map
  • Click on region points to drill down for a complete list of all inventory in the region
  • Supplemental inventory views now offer the ability to drill down by child account or region.

Enhanced Access Control

Giving you full confidence over your AWS system access is what Aimably is all about.

The last thing you want is a third party tool accessing your customer data. Trust us, we don’t want that access either. We are committing Aimably to total transparency to our clients with regards to the permissions and access policies we are granted in our clients’ AWS environments. As a result, we’ve clarified the following:

  • Aimably will never request access to your application data
  • The basic Aimably AWS permission policy is now titled Usage Data Only and contains only the permission required to record inventory in an AWS environment and its usage. Here is a copy of the policy for you to review. Please note that by choosing the Usage Data Only permission policy, you are limiting the scope of Aimably Reduce functionality available to you.
  • The advanced Aimably AWS permission policy is now titled Data & Scheduling and contains only the permissions included in Data Usage Only as well as the ability for Aimably Reduce to stop and start EC2, RDS and a few other instance types. Here is a copy of the policy for you to review.
  • Aimably uses the ARN method of accessing AWS instances and therefore cannot expand its permissions in your environment without you expressly signing in as an administrator and approving these changes. This also allows you to deactivate the ARN at any time on your AWS Console and instantly revoke Aimably access.

Additional Changes and Bug Fixes

Reduced sync times for cost and storage analysis in Aimably Insight:

  • Support for informed region changes in the API
  • Improved sync speeds for storage analysis
  • Improved storage analysis alerts, including fixing false alerts when comparing buckets
  • Improved the updating of dashboard graphs during sync

We appreciate all the feedback we have received during our beta period and continue to work closely with our early customers to learn more about their needs. If you have any feedback, please submit it to our team. If you’d like to be a beta tester, visit our Beta sign up page now!
